When I was looking back over older blog posts here, I realized that I didn't post our 2020-2021 curriculum preview, so instead I will do a recap, partly to give you ideas for future planning and partly as a record of our homeschool when I look back. I'm not so sure it's all been fun, but it does pass nonetheless. It's been a few months since I posted and much has happened throughout that time. Today, I will share a bit of a recap of 2019, as well as plans moving forward. Riley will continue to read through the AO Bible Reading Plan this year. She also finished copying Psalms last year and began copying Proverbs this year using the Journible Series.

Even though, we are in week 11 of our 2019-2020 school year, I want to go back and post curriculum previews for high school. This year, RileyAnn is in 10th grade and Ruben is in 9th grade. I posted Levi's Year 2 back in Sept, but have been making some adjustments to Ruben's Year 9 schedule. Here is a preview of his general plan for Year 9....

I was looking back at old posts and realized, I didn't share my summer reading list so I will include progress here in this post along with the fall list. Click here to see where I left off in spring.

I've been tardy in posting my curricula choices this year because I wanted to try some things before solidifying them. We are now three weeks into the 2019-2020 academic year. I've made a few changes, but am finally finding a rhythm.
Levi is in Year 2 by public school standards. However, he is young for his grade with a June birthday so having just turned seven, we are somewhere between 1st Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09832248267539572189noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3709573115391732408.post-76536720970976935352019-08-19T09:15:00.002-05:002019-08-19T09:15:46.341-05:00Journey: An Education for Life Retreat - Registration is Open!!

RileyAnn has officially completed AO Year 7 and AO Year 8 Science. I highly recommend it!! The Ambleside Advisory did a tremendous job of choosing a variety of living books and piecing together a wonderful introductory and preparatory science study for the upper years. Because Riley completed the study in her Year 8 & 9, I did make a few minor modifications and additions for high school, Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09832248267539572189noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3709573115391732408.post-4836563792312523712019-06-21T21:00:00.000-05:002019-10-06T08:28:10.161-05:00Spring Term 2018-2019 Wrap-Up
Much like the slow spring season this year, our 2018-2019 academic year limped to a close. We got'er done, but it wasn't pretty. Today, I'll share with you what we did and didn't do.

The calendar says spring, but it really hasn't felt like it yet here in Wisconsin. We've had really cold, wet weather and we're about two weeks behind as far as the growing season. That's not great for the farm, but it's been good for my literary life, as I've continued to pluck away at my reading indoors. You can see my winter reading list here. Today, I'm going to share an update on past Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09832248267539572189noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3709573115391732408.post-17885122012917308442019-05-11T22:23:00.000-05:002019-05-26T13:12:45.826-05:00True Grit...

As the grass begins to green outside my window, I can look back at this photo from mid February and see the beauty. However, setting an all time record snow total of 54" for the month of February was not beautiful at the time. As a matter of fact, many days were just pure survival mode. More than 30 cows freshening throughout a month of subsequent blizzards was interesting to say the least. Last fall, I read aloud Columbus by Ingri & Edgar Parin D'Aulaire to Levi. I was very excited at the prospect of reading this series again, which has been reprinted by Beautiful Feet Books. I recently finished reading The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams to Levi. In Williams' tale, the toys converse. One day, the Rabbit asks the Skin Horse, "What is REAL?" and wants to know if it "means having things buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"
The Skin Horse replies, "Real isn't how you are made...It's a thing that happens to you. I have always been a list maker. This included tracking the books I read for many years. However, once babies and toddlers came into the picture, I became much more sporadic in my tracking. I have since made attempts to go back and recollect those missed books to create a record, as well as, proceeding in diligence to track reading going forward.
