"But if you want to do well on the new Advanced Placement (AP) examination in American history, you’d better know about homosexual activist Harvey Milk, too."In The Science Behind How Bedtime Stories Help Kids, writer Esther Crain cites scientific reasons supporting reading aloud at bedtime. We've made a bedtime read aloud habit for the past few years and I agree with Crain's reasoning. The kids and I love this time together!!...and it really does help them settle down for bed. We're currently reading Gone-Away Lake by Elizabeth Enright. It's a great summer read! Ruben laughs out loud and begs for more.
I'm in full steam planning mode as I intend to begin school next Monday. I have most of our resources chose and I spent yesterday ordering last minute books. I'll be posting our final 2015-2016 choices here next week. In the meantime, check out Celeste's Form II binders. Mystie Winckler also has a great little video in which she shares her circle time binders. You may remember, last year, we ditched the binders and went to composition books. This year, I'm trying to decide. There are things I like about both. I think a circle time binder is a great idea for keeping everyone on the same page.
BTW, here are a couple of planning sheets I've created this year while making book/curriculum choices.

Once again, each student is split between two years of Ambleside Online. This sheet helps me to see book choices from two years. This visual picture aids me in deciding what will work best. I still have a few holes, but it's slowly coming together.
I absolutely LOVE this photo of little brother following big sister....
It shows how powerful sibling relationships are and the responsibility of being a role model.
So have you moved to AO altogether and are no longer using TQH?
ReplyDeleteNo, we have not moved totally to AO....I'm testing the water :) Our 6th grader works well independently and our 5th grader still requires much assistance, in addition to balancing a three year old. I have picked AO selections that fit within our history time period...often times books listed in the TQ guides, to allow her some independence. I also like their literature, poetry, and other enrichment studies. I am still using TQ, though not exclusively...well, I don't know if I ever did. We'll actually be using a new Beautiful Feet guide for the spine of our history this year with supplements from two TQ guides. I also intend to study the book of Genesis with the TQ Beginnings guide as part of our Bible study this year.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Melissa
