“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” -Ephesians 2:8,9

Cabin on Trouble Creek....
I just finished reading Cabin on Trouble Creek by Jean Van Leeuwen aloud. It's a fabulous read! The book is based on a true account of a pioneering family back in 1803. Pa and his two sons Daniel and Will head for Ohio from Pennsylvania to homestead. Once clearing enough land and erecting a log cabin, Pa leaves the boys to finish the chinking and fireplace, while he goes back home to retrieve Ma and the smaller children. Pa is slated to return in five to six weeks. However, something goes terribly wrong and the boys must manage survival over winter with little experience and very few supplies. The girth of the story is about the survival of these two boys, age 9 and 11, left alone in the wilderness. This is a great read for boys. However, I must say the girls and I liked it just as much. I believe Cabin on Trouble Creek would qualify as a living book and is a wonderful piece of historical fiction. We recommend it :)
